Lagos Achieves Free Flowing Traffic on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway


The Lagos State Government has cleared tankers, which were illegally parked or abandoned, on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway in order to ensure safety of Lagosians and free flow of traffic in the area.Over 50 trailers have been removed from the area in accordance with the government’s zero tolerance for gridlocks and indiscipline.

Security: LASG to Collaborate with Nigerian Navy


Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Usman Oyibe Jibrin, harping on the need for the Navy to assist the state in the fight against crime.The governor who spoke at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja expressed his displeasure at the unfortunate and current spate of robberies in Lagos State within a week into his administration, which informed his urgent audience with the Chief of Naval Staff.In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, the Governor said Lagos being the foremost commercial hub of the country is strategic and cannot be a breeding ground for criminals.

Lagos Debunks Allegation of Ladipo Market Demolition, Closure


The Lagos State Government on Wednesday debunked the allegation in certain sections of the media that some parts of the Ladipo Market in Mushin Local Government area had been demolished and put under lock and key.Setting the record straight, the Executive Secretary of the Council, Hon. Jide Bello in a statement, said business activities went on at the Ladipo market yesterday unhindered and that the traders are presently at their stalls carrying out their business transactions.

Ojo Boat Mishap: Lagos Sympathises with Families of Victims


The Lagos State Government on Thursday commiserated with families of six pupils who drowned when a fibre boat conveying them to school was hit by a motorised boat within the Ebute Ojo waterways in Ojo Local Government area Wednesday.In a joint press briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Yinka Marinho described the incident as unfortunate, saying that the incident occurred despite government’s increasing efforts to make the waterways safe for residents.

2,523 cooperatives in Lagos database


The Lagos State government yesterday said only 2,523 cooperatives societies have been captured in its database.The government said the number was a far cry from about 16,000 cooperative societies operating in the state.Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Dr. Olajide Bashorun, said this at a briefing as part of events to commemorate the 2015 International Day of Cooperatives in Alausa, Ikeja.

Ambode Names Engr. Okonji as GM State Electricity Board


Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday approved the appointment of Engineer Peter Nkedishuka Okonji as the new General Manager of the State Electricity Board.In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Habib Aruna, Okonji’s appointment which takes immediate effect, follows the resignation of Mrs Damilola Ogunbiyi as the General Manager of Board.

Africa’s richest man and foremost business mogul, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has disclosed that despite his wealth, he has no residential property outside Nigeria.Dangote, whose 2015 net worth was put at $21.6billion, according to Forbes, also revealed how the late Chief M. K. O. Abiola discouraged him from investing in the media.

The Chairman of Bi-Courtney Limited, Dr. Wale Babalakin, has requested the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, to re-assign a fundamental rights enforcement suit which he filed against the Attorney General of the Federation.Babalakin had filed the suit before Justice John Tsoho of the Lagos Division of the court, seeking an order stopping the respondents from giving effect to a proposed move to arraign him on criminal charges before the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State High Court.

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a 19-member committee on local government reformation, saying the move is to ensure that residents feel the impact of their councils.The government expressed concern that in spite of the huge human and material resources available in the councils, there was little on the ground. Police arraign manager for stealing N2m beverages


The police have arraigned a warehouse manager, Akokhia Joseph, before an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing beverages estimated at N2.2m, belonging to his employer, one Vivian Osian.It was learnt that Akokhia was to give the goods out based on orders from the management of the company.He allegedly diverted some of the goods, replacing them in the warehouse with empty cartons.

Buhari promises improved power supply


President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday promised that his administration would give the highest possible priority to the rapid improvement of power supply across the country.According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while granting audience to officials of CGGC, the Chinese construction company working on the Mambilla Power Project.Adesina quoted the President as saying that it was quite regrettable that power generation in the country had failed to keep pace with national needs over the years.

Makoko is a slum neighborhood located in Lagos, Nigeria. Its population was considered to be 85,840; however, the area was not officially counted as part of the 2007 census and the population has been estimated to be much higher.Established in the 18th century primarily as a fishing village, much of Makoko rests in structures constructed on stilts above Lagos Lagoon.As of 2006, the area is essentially self-governing with a very limited government presence in the community and local security being provided by area boys.In July 2012, Nigerian government officials destroyed dozens of residences after giving residents 72 hours notice of eviction. Lagos taskforce clears Oshodi-Apapa expressway of trucks


After several weeks of traffic gridlock, respite came yesterday, on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, as tankers and other articulated vehicles disappeared from the ever-busy road. The disappearance of tankers is believed to be in response to the directive by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to the drivers to vacate the road immediately when he led top officials of the state government and security agencies, last Thursday, on an on-the-spot assessment of major traffic points in the area.
